Plain gauge or double butted

What's the thoughts on double butted versus plain gauge spokes. I have new wheel to build up.

Mavic m231 36h on a dx hub. Bike is a bit of a cargo bike. Can't decide over db or pg. Rear wheel same hub and rim with 32h plain gauge and has done sterling service for 20 odd years.

The skin flint side of me is saying buy the pg spokes.

Double butted spoke might save you a couple of ounces. Does that matter?

It's more down to the builder. The standard norm is DT double butt.

Depends on the type of build as well & the type of rider

Not really bothered about the weight saving. Is there much difference in strength.

I'll be building. Done 3 wheels before. Did them with db but never gave it much thought at the time.

For me the DT revolution is the only spokes - stiff and light building wheels

I've noticed some builders use double butted on the front wheel and left rear with plain gauge on the rear cassette/drive side.

Double butted spokes (apparently) make for a stronger wheel that is more likely to remain true ... it's all in the build.

My experience over the years back this up.

Butted spokes are actually stronger than plain guage, because they move more.

But 32h rear 36h front? Won't that look a bit weird? Whatever, 32h has no place on a cargo bike, certainly not on the back wheel of a cargo bike.
