The frame looks fine and the mech looks straight. I have no idea how or why it's snapped, at the time I was climbing on the middle ring...must be the power in my old pins 
Seriously though, I can only imagine it was metal fatigue over time. I had noticed earlier in the ride that the mech was being a pain to change; as though it was trying to change back up a sprocket so must have been going gradually.
