Pinarello custom build (Dura-Ace, SL) 1990s - Any ideas??

I think that is a really good restoration. I wonder if it was rebadged as a pinarello on purpose or as a mistake.

who knows, a guy on ebay actually stated that he had some mercian decals left over so he stuck them on something else to sell. i messeged him and said he had commited fraud,i didnt get a reply :D
yeah cracking bike mate, the tube decals did my head in a bit at first, but thats just them[concorde]angling the font in relation to the seat tube
and i see you have got the head set writing side on,not like my lbs did on one of my bikes so i will have to take it back.

congratulations, kevin

Cheers. I don't think it was a mistake - I think PANZR may well be right that it was rebadged because of team sponsorship. I spoke to a colleague of mine who confirmed it did happen now and again - back then of course it was a lot easier to do that than it would be now on modern frames. Either that or someone figured it was more resalable as a Pinarello...which I guess may be true?

There's a good chance that this was a team bike that had Pinarello as the sponsor and the rider may have preferred to ride Concorde so Pinarello logos were required
It's happened in pro-ranks more than a few times I believe...I can't think of the actual instances though

As said it could have been a team bike using Concorde frames, who changed frames to Pinarello, if it was a 2nd div team they possibly couldn"t afford to replace the backup bikes to the new Pinarello frames, so kept the supplied / may be paid for Concorde"s, & had them painted &/or re decaled. Towards the end of sponsorship by Fangio ( who at the time I was a mechanic for) this Idea was discussed as the new frame sponsor Vitus were not as generous as the previous one Alan, but that set up was a no go, as the frame design was a dead give away, another route was a rider signing from a team Concorde sponsored who liked it better than the present team Pinarello frame, so either the team or the rider had the frame finished & decaled to match the present team set up. Went on quite a bit in the 80"s not just with frames but components as well. After all a good proportion of the kit was Italian so it was a bit like the mafia on occasions.

Re: Re:

Ha! Interesting stuff, thanks. Yes, that all makes me think that's a likely explanation - could well have been a back-up bike, I reckon. Seems to make most sense. The Pinarello and Concorde frames from that era are certainly pretty similar unless you look closely, so they could have got away with it.
