I'm not familiar (yet) with Eroica Brittania, but for the Tuscan version you first need to consider how much walking you expect to be doing on those shoes, before having cleats nailed to your oh so correct and oh so tight Dettos.
Trying to get back onto the bike and into the toe clips on a steep uphill stretch of strada bianca is not so easy.
I use a pair of Rogelli cyclocross shoes (no holes in the uppers) that I found NOS last year, but without cleats. They work fine for me.
Vittoria makes a nice shoe - the '1976', I think it's called - that's gotten good reviews.
Detto Pietro for ultimate comfort back in the day, apparently.
There actually seem to be quite a few around if you're a size 7 or smaller, but you might as well give up the search if you're size 9.
For modern 'classic' shoes you've got the Reynolds and the Vittoria, as mentioned, Quoc Pham, Dromarti, and for the more budget end of the market there's the William Lennon Arturo.
