Pedalo channel crossing

A couple of days ago I proposed the idea of buying a second hand 4 seater pedalo and sail it across the English Channel to a couple of mates. I've been playing with the thought for some time and I think it should be perfectly doable, seeing as it's only 21 miles and a 70 year old bloke could swim it, surely that means 4 guys in their mid 20s will be able to do it in a pedal boat? The fastest swimmer (not the 70 year old man obviously) did it in a shade under 7 hours.
My friends thought I was crazy for even thinking about it though. Have I really gone mad or do you think there's some sense in my idea?

Haha thanks for the offered help and support guys, it's really just an idea though, I'm not really planning on actually doing it yet, and with all these rules and regulations (and costs!) involved the chances of the idea evolving into an actual plan seem to get slimmer...
If I did do it though I think it would be wise to attract some sponsors and do it for charity, that way we would at least cover the expenses.
It's curious though that some of you guys would be up for it in a heartbeat while my actual real life friends want nothing to do with this
