Pedal Woes or Pedalos

Morning all,

I hope you are sleeping soundly!

No doubt, some of you may have noticed my recent penchant for pedals - and i can assure you this has not been, in any way, intentional. I have purchased some pedals (read that as - too many) for my Gazelle and my Raleigh ProRace recently and I have not been very lucky, as they have proved either unsuitable or in really poor condition. But, things have changed a little, I now have suitable pedals for the Gazelle - MKS ones which need a little work - clean and grease etc and i also bought a pair of black plastic pedals for my ProRace which are new.

That seems all well and good BUT, there is always a BUT, the NOS pedals I bought for the ProRace are stiff. This is the third time this has happened with new pedals which i have bought. They are stiff almost to the point of not rotating. I can feel a little roughness when turning them too. Forgetting returning them to the seller - what are my options?

1. Disassemble, regrease, rebuild?
2. Throw a load of oil in them and see if that works?
3. Stick them on the bike and use them and see if they free up?
4. Throw myself off a bridge?

This odd roughness seems only to be on cheap, new pedals - with some work could i get them to the buttery smooth stage? Is it worth the bother?

Roll on 8am - bedtime for us night workers!!

Stick them on a bike and crack the nut slightly until they spin freely, then go out for a ride and then check the bearings again.

Option 1 sounds right to me but i thought i would ask before i give myself some work.

Ian, thanks for your confidence! LOL The prob will be if i do drop any, I won't be able to see them to find them! (SpecSavers really needs a visit)

Ian,

As always, you are so helpful. If i find myself looking for two balls in the garage, I will certainly give you a shout and if the balls drop, I will certainly give you a shout in a lower pitched voice!!

Thanks for the link but it is too small for me to see!

Richard

The key word in the original post is 'cheap'

Nuff said.

I got a karma spanner in the post today..............
