PayPal woes

OK so I was informed last week that my PayPal account had been credited with a total of £1200 since opening it and I would have to fill out my 'business' details.

Well as I'd reached this gargantuan sum over a period of 6 years, I marked myself as a non-profit individual and marked my income as the minimum available. PayPal said thank you and all was fine...for two days!

Now I have to provide proof of my charitable organisation and PayPal has more or less locked my account down :?: :?:

Has anybody here been in a similar situation and if so, how did you handle it?

Is it 'cos we always use PayPal 'Gift' :?:

And you put down that you were non profit making :?:

Bollox, I never used gift before coming here.

So I'm pretty fooked I guess as there is no 'help line' that I can see and I'll be damned if I'm sending them my bank account statements etc. Plus there is no option to change my 'business' settings either.

Edit: Sorry I just realised your post was made up of questions, not statements.

I don't think I stated I was a charity, I just said I was a non profitable individual. I was trying to say that I wasn't running a business, which was very difficult to do with their multiple questions/answer type form. £1200 in 6 years is hardly a business, especially as much more than that has actually left my account!

isnt the limit £1200 for a year?
thats what i thought it was
maybe theyre actually cracking down?
although i bet their questions are very confusing!

I just changed my email account and then when my ebay stuff finished I found that my account had been locked and the money was unobtainable..........................well after being on the phone to them for about 10 mins at  £1 a minute  I resolved the issue, waisted my night off though

Wow
This sounds crazy, I have never heard of a bank asking for business details once a certain amount of cash goes through an account, or a credit card for that matter, why would they care? Isn't it the job of the tax dept to worry about that? even if paypal is obliged to let the powers be know how much money you're moving around they shouldn't have to handle any details beyond his name is Joe Blow and $45,000 passed through his account this year.

How does a service like this get away with behaving like an authority?

At the very least i has to be some of the sloppiest customer relations around.. constantly bombarding you with "use paypal for everything" advertising and then freezing your account when you hit a limit with no warning.

Wow
