Hi guys

just wanted to know if I paid for a bike via paypal, do I have any sort of comeback if it goes ti*s up .. this a private sale and not through the dreaded bay.. ? ?

Do I just send the money to his paypal address ? or is there more to it than that .. ?

Anyone know ?

TIA

Si

you wont have the PayPal buyers protection like you have for ebay purchases. but i think PP could try to get it back as long as it still is on the sellers PP account. not sure if they would be willing to help you though...

so you have to do your homework first. is the seller trustworthy, do you have his name, address and phone number? is he/she listed in the phone book under this address and phone number? can you find any information on him/her via google? did you talk to him on the phone? if it doesnt feel right dont do it unless you have sufficient gambling money...

if you fund your paypal purchases with a credit card rather than your bank account then you should have extra protection there.

Is there any way to have the seller send you an invoice? That way the seller holds some responsibility for the sale.

Might be difficult to arrange, but you could get the person collecting it to visit the chap's house and check out it is legit and call you. You do the paypal thing, instant payment appears in matey's account, bike gets loaded into car!

Of course, you have to trust the chap picking it up....

Having been ripped off by SunnyJim I can say from personal experience that you get virtually no protection from Paypal whatsoever.

As far as I can gather they simply send the seller an e-mail asking him to send the goods, and that's basically it.

It's also surprising how few credit cards now offer protection - something I assumed but was sadly mistaken.

Sincerely hope you achieve a more stisfactory result than I did.
