Any barend shifter will give you the mounts for your downtube levers.

Gut rippers were a nickname for the levers you see on really cheap, seventies road bikes with suicide levers. They mounted on the stem, with the levers facing you.

They are rubbish, you'll get some that someone has ditched if you ask nicely.

interested... do you have pics, or a link where i might se exactly how they look, and are mounted...?

if you mount the gutrippers on the top part of the stem you might be able to operate them with the thumbs while holding the bars.
