Pathetic

That's not going to help them, though. It would make us all feel better for a bit, but ultimately the end result would be kids that were more violent.

sad reflection on society that you'd rether "feel their pain " in an attempt
to heal them rather than inflict pain to allow them to make a judgement
as to weather to commit again

i hope they die from an addiction soon

take away some of their privileges .
house curfew , no more video games etc...
and spend the 100 hours doing some work in the national park clearing mess up .

It's funny how reactionnary people with extreme/impractical/absurd ideas about punishment (I am sure they're only joking) are rarely exposed to that kind of youth crime themselves. It's always tempting to just do a bit of youth bashing when you get old if it makes you feel better and vent your frustration, but there is nothing new about that, I remember reading a text dating back to the Roman Empire where a Consul had exactly the same kind of moans about "today's youths".

It's the usual fear of the unknown (and way too much Daily Mail reading) and the usual prejudice about a group different from one's own group.

I think their crime is horrible but that the punishment is about right.

I think that driving at 40mph outside a school is about as bad as their crime, yet is only punished with 3 points/£50.

What are you talking about? I'm not against corporal punishment if it's administered in the correct way. But if it's done it has to be done in a measured, loving way. A clip round the ear administered by a loving parent or a caring policeman is one thing, an hour long beating is what they gave to the deer.

The point I'm trying to make is violence begets violence. What these kids needed was boundaries, which were enforced a long time ago. It was the responsibility of the parents and all the adults in their community to do this, and we've all failed. If we had done right, it would never have happened.

The sad thing is, they are very likely to die from an addiction, and they'll almost certainly spend the rest of their unhappy little lives in prison. They weren't born genetically wrong, though. Had they been raised in a nice, middle class home like the one most of us grew up, they'd be talking about girls and doing their A levels at the moment.

I think people who are convicted of something like this, should get a LOT of hours of community service in somewhere that has to deal with animals have have been injured by cruelty.

After a 1000 hours of having to look after and tend to animals that have been abused, I wonder whether they would be so inclined to be violent and abusive to animals in the future...

no , but if they are sent to jail , they will be exposed to more serious criminals and nothing good will come out of it .

they need to be punished by taking away what they enjoy .

at their age they deserve a second chance otheriwse they will become life long criminals .

"they need to be punished by taking away what they enjoy . "

as in their right to freedom

i agree that the bounderies need set but its a bit late for that now
at what point did these monsters think oh it's only a dumb animal
no ones gonna care ,its a right laff this innit
and for all we know these could be "middle class " kids
but in the sence of do the crime, do the time ,they need punished
so they will suffer in prison ,well is that not what its for ?
the 1000 hours at an animal shelter sounds not a bad idea
maybee they'll get eaten by something

i spent about 2 hours last night calming my daughter, she heard the story on the local news and its been on her mind for sometime, last night she let it all out. how do you explane to a 6 year old behavior like that?
i can understand the behavior and it needs to be delt with in the right way but dont all boys go though this stage whether its burning ants with a magnifying glass or dissecting frogs. i guess stomping on a deer is a bit extrem but its really is just human nature whether we like it or not.
that said id like to get my hands on the little runts for upseting my girl
