How best to clean the tubes?

I'll wait and see if the seller responds then go from there

As you say, wait and see.
BTW, lady luck doesn't exactly follow you close by does she?
Noticed on your sig. that you've had two bikes stolen and one broke.
And the bloke on your avatar seems a bit of a klutz too

All the best matey.

I've got a fantastic family, wife, kids, a job and my health. That's all the luck i need.

A rusty pcs-10? Not worth crying about.

How do you define "little" is the main thing.. The definition of a relative/subjective term is something that might mean different things to different people.... or "modified or affected by personal views, experience, or background"

Example... My 1964 Chevelle convertible had rusted through floor pans and trunk.... In California, it would be described as a "Rust bucket" that same car, on the East coast could be described as having "little rust" and it would sell immediately(which it did) since on the east coast, they salt the roads in winter, and most cars from that era are completely shot. So RELATIVE to any other 1964 Chevrolet in the area, it has "little" rust.. If I tried to sell it in CA stating it had "little rust" I would be laughed at...(which I was,,, :)

"little" is absolutely a relative/subjective term.... I am sure that my 'Little" is going to be different than yours.... Go ask several people to bring you a "little" of something, and see how many different amounts you get.....

As far as function, If it does not work properly because of rusted parts, then you might have something....

Also,, It was stated that it had to be hammered apart... How much of the rust was visible before disassembly??? The large spot of rust looks to me like transfer from the inside of the other tube it slipped into... Have you tried wiping it off???

Always be careful of terms that are not exact like "little" "some" "many" etc...

Amen brother,
don't sweat the small stuff. 8)

Crikey, it doesn't look too bad. I seriously doubt it has reduced functionality.

Take some good pics to support any claims you decide to make and then wipe it down with an oily rag, grease it up and assemble. Get on with your bike repair. Sending it back is just going to waste time and inconvenience you further to the hour of work you need to put in to get it sorted.

When you are finished your bike work, and you have a spare afternoon, take it to bits and prep it and finish it off with some matched paint, if you really need it to look bling.

I would have been perfectly happy with it, after all I like scratched and rusty things, saves me time!

:)

Get on with your bike repair.

When you are finished your bike work,

Highlandsflyer I've edited out some words of yours.

Replace with- 'use the stand and sort out your bike first then chance your arm and send it back for a full refund. :D

So update:

Heard nothing from the seller. So logged a dispute.

Seller then got in touch today to apologise (was in hospital he said) and his mum posted the stand as it was in her garage.

Asked me to send some more pictures and wants to get to an amicable solution.

I also got in touch with Park Tool and the lovely people in customer service have sent me a package with replacement bolts for the whole thing

I have oiled it down and tried to clean as much of the surface rust off as possible - once i put it back together and resolve the bay situation I'll let you know.

Sorry to hear that you've had a bad experience on eBay
I have to say it happens to from time to time, things aren't always what they seem to be?
Sounds like the seller is willing to try to sort it out.
The people at Park Tools sound really great sending you a kit of new bolts etc.
Not sure about the new Avatar , don't think that quite hits the spot, lol

Looking on the site I think many people on here have had worse experiences. I think this will resolve itself. Just as long as we're grown ups about it.

The park tool guys were awesome. No questions, just wanted to help.

How about the new avatar. Addictive ain't it?
