got one today, was expecting a parcel from the US of A, and got this letter saying i owe vat, have been mostly lucky in the past and things have been marked down in value to get under the radar, at least the postage from the US was only chaged at £15 quid (which i thought was low but the guy didnt respond ot my emails asking him to up it as i thought it wrong) so overall a bummer but not too much extra cost.

Funny thing is, i even work for HMRC

as long the parcels not being held by the royal mail you should be ok! those robbing scum took more than the tax man did on my amp rear shock, turned out I had to pay VAT on the payment for work done in the states  funny thing was when I rang up HMRC to ask about the charges and complain about the royal mail charges the woman on the phone said ''and you think we're robbing bastards sir? ''

In my experience, HMRC are some of the most lovely and helpful people on the other end of the phone, ever. My favourite being this:

MaliA: "Hi, I seem to be on this tax code XXX, is this right, only I'm new to this?"

HMRC Lady in Wales: "Oh, no, my love, that's awful! How are you meant to go out and have fun when we are taking so much from you. I'll get this sorted straight away, and expect a cheque in the post soon. Spend it on someone special, there's a good lad"

MaliA: "..."

Cheque arrives. Pub's taking go up.

I confess i'm a civil servant to :(

Post office & HMRC have both missed all my last 4 overseas buys :D Maybe because i got sent to work :?

well i picked it up, and yes it cost the guyu to post 40 dollars, his loss, i had said it would cost more than 15 dollars, but had a lovely walk back from the depot,

Got a note once , had to go to a place to pick it up and on top of that massive hassle also had to pay vat , ended up being twice as much .

Every time Ive had to call the tax man he has been nothing but helpful . One time when I didn't have anything to write in a box so left it on a tax return , got it back in the post so called and asked what it is they wanted me to do " just put £0 " . And another time I got a tax return in the post which was strange as I hadn't been self employed for a few years so called and tentatively asked why I had it " oh just ignore it "
