Hi R G

Yes re-grease wheel bearings. I'm wishing to check condition of bearings and cups on both wheels...wondering what size of cone? key I need to get in there?. Guess I'll need two, one to unscrew one b cup while the other steadies the other bearing cup?

Ah, you want to know the spanners size? Its 15 or 16... You will need 2 very flat ones. They are available as special set, not too expensive. And worth every penny.

Make sure you readjust them very carefully when reassembling. Or your hubs will die very fast. You need to adjust them with a tiny bit of play between the cones and the bearing balls. Just so the play is away, when the skewers are shut.

I have, and use, 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17 cone spanners, I machine open enders
to do the job. I could check I would take a guess at a 15mm cone a 17mm for the lock nut.
I just remembered I have a new XT hub in my desk draw.
HB-M738 wants a 13mm cone spanner and a 17mm spanner for the locknut;
HB-M737 wants same as HB-M738
FB-M737 wants a 15mm cone spanner and a 17mm cone spanner for the locknut.

And another[and a third hand] 17mm spanner to hold the fixed side. It makes adjusting easier.

Hi Guys

Looks like we've nigh covered the lot...13mm....17mm. I'll have a second go at getting ma-calipers in there to measure-em. See a guy on You Tube's servicing a Parallax rear, freeze frame flashes 16mm.

So place you bets I'll be trying fitting my cals in the front gap first.

I'm here again. I did as advised and got right size cone keys and took Parallax to pieces. Great! Discovered 8 speed drive-side (free hub) cup was a tad scored! (Wheel hub's outer stamped Parallax FH-737) Looking to replace this rear cup but guess that means replacing the free hub? No probs if that is so.

If so, are there any alt Deore XT freehubs's would fit as FH-737's seem a bit thin on the ground?

Onwards & Upwards...and a massive thanks again...to you ALL. PS: Don't know what front cups look like yet!!

Dinna quoter me on this but it would be down to bearing size wouldnt it ?

So if the bearings specced are 1/16th then it is obvious the cups in the hub would be for 1/16th.
Any hub that takes that bearing size will have cones for that size
So any hub with the same bearing size as the XT there will fit.
The only variables are the outer diameter, which i dont think theres a problem with, even undersized, it would still cover the bearings enough so they function.
Any wider, it wont fit
Other variable could be length of the cone. too long the spacing wont fit the forks.

I reckon those both these variables are covered by standardization :?
