painting, how to do it at home?

i could a cheap powder coat but the front end of the frame looks great, it just needs the rear doing, powder coating would lose me the stickers etc on the front end that look good.

also, thanks for the above links :D

Been doing rattlecan paint for years - it takes time to do it right but no time at all to do it badly. Use quality branded paint. Steer clear of shop brand stuff like Wilkinsons own! even if its just for gloss black. Marmite would be better.

For some reason, the paint I get from the tip which the Americans drop off before going home is much higher quality than our own.

Its fun and frustrating all in one.

yeah if you search for $50 paintjob in google it throws up some guy painting his car with rustoleum, which sounds similar to hammerite but isn't...there were discussions on european suppliers on various sites, it seems such a scam that we get such rubbish paint whilst the yanks get paint that works.

the reason for this is similar to the drop in effectiveness of nitomors with the e.u. reducing "harmful chemicals" that also seem to be the most effective

the u.s. hasn't got so caught up in the ooo that might hurt a fly that spray can..lets fly half way round the world to discuss it

You can get Rustoleum in C Brewers trade paint supplies still, its special order and takes a few days to come in but it's far better than hammerite and gives a lovely finish if you take a bit of time over the job. You can buy from brewers if you dont have an account as well. Make sure you get some rustoleum thinners at the same time as once it dries it doesn't come of easy.

Some advice to have it popped in the oven just so the drying would be even but when you want it done at home, then there is a very slim chance that you would have one ready at your garage. You might as well let it dry naturally but be sure that it will not be getting any form of dust so it will get a smooth finish when it has settled already.

I used a fluro orange before in a friends garage/workshop. First time I had ever used a fluro.

After a few coats and some flattening the bike looking right peachy..unlike my friends workshop. Apparently fluro's apply a bit like powder coat in that the whole of the workshop had a thin layer of fluro dust covering everything
