paint stripping (the gentle way)

Hey all, just wondering if anyone can recommend a way of stripping paint that was applied using a rattle can without stripping what is underneath?

I have a set of bars that look like they were hastily sprayed black to "tidy" them up. When I removed them from the bike, and took off the levers quite a lot of the paint just came off and revealed an interesting looking finish underneath. I am keen to see what is under there before selling/binning them.

Any ideas? I'm guessing Nitromoors will take the lot off!

paint thinner? rumpfy did something similiar to an old fat chance frame he had a while back. check the fat chance thread on mtbr.com

wirewool and water gently?? risk it'll strip what's underneath if you're not careful though

Yea, this does work although takes AGES :roll:

I did it on an old BMX of mine. The previous owner had sprayed blue over the original chrome.
