I have a polished aluminum 1991 Funk that I use fine steel wool to polish it up to a chrome like look, then a coat of Neverdull and it's good to go for several months. As I said, I sandblast my frames first and avoid sand paper and acid stripper completely...

I gave up on blasting years ago;-)
Well I still blast stuff to give a good surface for the paint to stick to.
I use StarChem Synstryp, it's methylene chloride based, that's what Nitromors used to be.
It's sold by car paint shops and I have seen it on ebay.

Yip, I'd say that more like it. I've found a company called Frost a good source for restoration products.

Once I saw your polished Funk Pat, Bootsy eat your heart out, I decided to get me a polish project. I loved my old polished Attitude, but cost constraints mean I am going for a similar vintage Cannondale. Just collected it from town, and am working out the best plan of attack. Wee bit too small, just like my old Attitude was, so pretty much a car trunk surprise bike. That is, I have something to ride to get gas when I run out..

So how should I approach the job of stripping?

I am thinking of getting it blasted, from what I know that actually strengthens the frame?

I actually got my Funk frame glass bead blasted for a smoother surface than sand blasting gives. If I was going to paint it, then sandblasting would be fine. Then, Charlie Cunningham clued me into the finest cheapest way to polish aluminum-fine steel wool and soapy water-you get a really high finish fairly easily, then coat with car wax, or now I use a product called NeverDull. It's actually a polish, too, but leaves a thin film on the metal that resists corrosion for several months between applications. After applying, a quick buff with a clean towel and it's good to go...

Methyl chloride could well be the missing ingredient.
Web search or ebay for heavy duty paint stripper and it is still available.

Your talking about Shot Peening it kinda de-stresses the surface of the metal to help discourage future stress fracture in the item.
