Hi all

My forks seem to have a problem and can anyone help ?

My front wheel never seems to sit in the middle of my forks and when I'm riding it seems to center itself and then wander out again .

I'm around 15 stone and only ride on moderately rough trails , I don't go jumping big drops .

I have checked everything , the forks are not cracked on the carbon or magnesium and are nice and free , the hub a Hope XC disc is perfect too . The hope caliper is not rubbing and seems to lined up correctly .

Anyone have any ideas as i'm a little stumped and it's a little unnerving to say the least .

Ta

Pierre .

I can't picture what you mean - are you saying the axle is firm in the dropouts and the bearings have no play, but the rims wander laterally? And there is no problem with the skewer?

PS
Not wishing to hijack, but I collect piccies of Orange E4s, and I haven't got many of 2000 E4s, so I wondered if you had one of yours?

Sounds Luke you need to loosen of the brace bolts, line everything up, then tighten them up again. The braces hold the legs parallel, so if they have moved over time, the legs might be out. Worth a go, but don't overtighten the bolts as you'll strip the threads and need a helicoil to fix the problem (I know from experience).

Seconded ,sounds like the forks have either worked their way out of parallel or were bolted together that way,any problems Tim (justbackdated) is the Pace guru on this site

Loosen the bridge[brace] bolts and centre the wheel by pulling the leg with the damper in it to adjust the wheels position. The damper leg will move up and down; the spring leg is fixed by it being connected to the springs themselves via the push-rod.
Then retighten the bolts-carefully to avoid cracking the bridge/stripping the threads-max 4Nm on the small ones; 5Nm on the biggies.
Dont forget to change those circlip occasionally-they spread over time/use and lose security.
Cheers :D

Thanks

Cheers chaps

I will try the dual brace thing tonight .

Sorry I don't have any piccies of my E4 but it was a lush silvery / gunmetal / polished frame . I don't know if it was just anodised or what but it sure looked great . It also had Manitou SXTi forks which I rate as good as a set of RC36's too !

Sorry Tim !

Again many thanks fellas

Pedro
