Funnily enough, as I was clearing some stuff from my workshop, I found a very old bottle of RST fork oil that I used in my RC35 MXCD forks. It’s 2.5W.
I’ve got the manual somewhere so I’ll get the volume.
Good to see[hear of?] a spring conversion, I have been doing those for a while, best to fit a spacer narrower than the spring so the assembly still fits in the dropouts correctly without the springs binding/clashing with the inner dropout section inside the carbon. And ease the tops as mentioned.
Dont go above 5WT oil as anything thicker will just blow the reed valve on the underside of the piston. Fill the damper to the brim with the control valve still fitted[fill through the screw hole], pumping the damper to expel any air and finally end with the damper rod compressed so there is allowance inside the cart for the volume of the damper rod.
It would be a good idea to strip the damper & replace all the seals/quad rings[I have new seal kits at £8] as they will have age hardened and will leak. Check the damper rod for deep scoring too as that will just eat up the new seal. Can check the reed valves too.
