Pace RC35 '96 Fork Steerer Tube Swap Question

I've got a 1996 pace RC35 fork that had a 1 inch steerer tube in it (and that was sat in a shim that went into the fork crown). I've now got a replacement 1 1/8th tube to replace it. However, the tube obviously doesn't fit the old shim but is too small for the fork crown as things stand. Is it as simple as me finding a new shim for the 1 1/8th tube to sit in or is it some other kind of part I need ?

Re:

Sounds like the shim you had in there was 1 1/4 to 1 inch. You need a 1 1/4 to 1 1/8, or a replacement crown in 1 1/8.

The crowns come in 1" 1-1/8" and 1-1/4" so you need the right size steerer for the crown or the right shim for your steerer as above

Yep, I’ve just had the vernier put and I need a 1-1/4 to 1-1/8 reducing shim. Anyone know if these are available ? I can’t see one on paces site.

Anyone used a stem shim instead for this purpose ?

You could try Tim at Fork English. Username on here; justbackdated

or put an ad in the wanted section :)

Re:

You can't use a stem shim as they are straight, the pace ones have a taper to allow you to fit the headset crown race. I have one, but I think it's a 1 1/4 to 1 inch. You could get the one you have turned on a large to fit 1 1/8.
