Pace RC31 problems

Thank you all in advance for any help you give....

Basically i thought my headset had gone on my RC200 because there was a lot of play in the front fork. Anyway having replaced the headset it was fine for about 15 mins of ridding and now the play is back. Having inspected things further its as if the problem is with the steerer. It just seems to small for the headset. ( its a 1in steerer ina 1in headset).

Any one got any ideas of what the problme could be....

you have got a race collar on havn't you?

Most forks bulge out the steerer where it meets the crown to create an interference fit with the lower race of the headset. Pace forks do it differently and use a race collar..a thin shim that bulks out the steerer slightly and allows an interference fit to be created.

If your missing this, your fork will feel loose. Give justbackdated a pm and he will be able to sort you out with oneI'm sure.

Stem not gripping the steerer tight enough? If you take it off there might be signs of slippage on the steerer?

Maybe this is it. I will have to have another look

Cheers

It gradually got worse with the old headset hence thinking i just needed a new headset. Having taken a closer look there appears to be what i presume is a "race collar" on the steerer though it doesnt move at all. It does look warn though

Hmm, looks like you've identified the problem. If wear is visible then it's probably past it. What sort of forks are they? Replaceable steerer type?
