PACE RC100 Rebuild Help!!! Desperate!!

Dr S turned down his cranks to 22 on a lathe, it's in his build write-up and bearing then cost not a lot.
To get custom made SKF bearings will cost you a small fortune, probably.

I don't know the PACE bikes but to me that's not a band around the frame but a suntour front mech with it's band removed (as you can with them) then clamped down to the bit on the frame.

Not really correct..

There are three types of mech:

1) Conventional. There are three standard sized mechs with fixed bands, these are the ones used on 99% of old bikes
2) Band on. These are ones that use the removable 'endless band' with a front facing allen key that tightens the mech to the frame. These also get used without the band on bikes like alpinestar estays and Gary fisher Montare estays. This also fits the OPs Pace, but with a squared off 35mm band.
3) Braze on. These are the MTB version of the road braze on and fit, as the name suggests, to a braze on mounted on the seat tube. These were used on later RC100s like DrS' one.

I guess the XC Pro removable band is a different fixing and I should have looked closer.

I always thought the braze on was a silly idea for MTB how often did they bend the mounts.

Oh no..I see your Pace's on ebay...I guess the b/b was too hard to source??

Good luck with the auction...would recommend if you haven't sold your forks or stem to add that to ebay too as additional auctions for maximum returns!

I can't imagine they bend at the mount Ben. Its built like a brick shithouse as we say in Yorkshire. Its a hefty chunk of milled alloy welded to the frame. Front mechs don't often get hit like a rear mech dies as its not so exposed, and if it did it would just move a little on the bolt and need readjusting.

I note with interest that Rody at Groovy Cycleworks is doing a few frames with direct mounts of late. Its a neat solution.

the grips you need are grab on mtn 2, got mine off ebay, they came from usa.
i have some panaracer amberwall tyres for mine, maybe not correct but will look so sool,
the bearings are a problem, i was lucky enough to reuse the original bearings, i did buy some off another member on retro bike, but the inside diameter was too tight. so in the future if the original bearings break, i'll get the spindle machined down.
i have to admit taking on an rc 100 build is not to be taken lightly.
but the effort is well worth it.
i even managed to get some reproduction bullseye decals off gil.
and i have just got off ebay a black leather turbo saddle.
getting close to completion now.
best of luck sourcing the stuff you need.
if your after a new black suede turbo saddle let me know.
