PACE RC 200 FRAME NUMBER AND MODEL?

doogie

Retro Guru
Hi folks,
The pace rc200 that I recently got off ebay is puzzling me a little.
I am not sure what model it is.
The stamping on the underside of the bb is:-
F519 075

Am I right in thinking this is a RC200 F5, 19" FRAME and production number 79?

If so what size steerer tube should fit it?
Currently it is fitted with Pace rc35 mxcds, 1" threaded steerer, syncross cattle prod ally stem, mavic headset.
Is it possible that there could be some reducers fitted in the head tube reducing the proper 1 1/8" size down to 1".
Can anyone please help me?
Cheers,
Ian. :?

Pics would help.

Is the stem a quill type? If so it's defo one inch as you can only reduce the size if you're using an ahead style set-up and a convertor.

shimmed out steerer? Probably not I'm 90 odd % sure F5s were 1". If it was shimmed I would expect the shim to come out when you take the forks off, does the headset not have any dimensions on it (some do some don't)? To check take a nail punch and gently push it down the head tube, if there is it should catch on a lip, there should also be a vertical slot in it if there is a shim

(Of course boy burning is spot on of course)

I wanted to upgrade to aheadset type stem, and also upgrade the forks.
I am struggling to find a decent set with a 1" steerer.
I thought I might be able to upgrade t 1 1/8" so as to have a better choice of suspension fork upgrades.
But now it is not looking too good!

I did not mean a shimmed out steerer, I was thinking if there were reducing inserts in the headtube.
Does anyone know the sizes for the headset cups - the location diameter that fits into the headtube for both 1" and 1 1/8 headset cups?
Cheers,
Ian :?

Well since it's a 'proper' Pace frame the only forks that you are allowed to fit are Pace forks!

Thet makes life much easier for you, couse RC35's, RC36's and RC31's etc. all have interchangeable steerer tubes. So a 1 1/8" fork can be converted to 1" and t'other way round. so it don't matter what size head tube you've got, you just need to know one way or the other.

Only 18yrs after the last post, good to see that the same discussions exist!

I too have an f5, and with the 1” aheadset fitted (by previous owner), I can only assume that I need to get a 1” steerer for my RC35 MXCD’s?

There is some talk that f5’s were 1 1/8” headsets, does anyone have one and can confirm this?
