Whys the axle that shape and with two holes?

The shape enables a very snug fit into Pace forks - thus the MT Lock name I guess. It does also fit any other fork however.
As for 2 holes - not sure - I can only presume which ever "end" fits best in the forks (as one curved edge is slightly wider than the other end) is the hole you use for a std skewer.
I await a technical correction on that if anyone knows better.

sure I read somewhere on here that one set of holes is for QR and the other is for bolts
