overburys restoration project.

Re: What bike is this ?

Although the forks have a different rake, I cant find anything else to match the headtube cable guides.

* and those rather unique roadie style semi wraparound stays. So I would suggest a late model Peak Finder/ Crossfell from around 1986

Re:

Bike was delivered today.
So I decided to strip the bike.
The gears and brakes look great, the brake levers are good, but the gear levers are horrible. So I will be on the lookout for a pair of shimano m700 gear levers.
And the bullmoose bar is really nice.
But I have a big problem, the seatpost i stuck.
I have never bought a bike yet with a stuck seatpost. But there is a 1st time for everything.
And also the green paint is horrible. It look like it was brushed on.
If anyone has a good solution to my stuck seatpost, give me a shout please.

Re: What bike is this ?

I have a dilemma, and need some advice.
Do I keep the wheels & rims original ?
Do I replace wheels with a lighter better pair ?
Or do I keep the hubs & lace to a nice pair of mavic rims ?
What would people do.
Also can I replace the 5 speed cassette with a 7 speed cassette ?
Thanks.
Jeff.

Re: What bike is this ?

Its your bicycle.

But...

The M700 Deerhead mechs and shifters work best with non indexed freehubs. It is just foul with Hyperglide as its not the slant parallelogram of the later mechs (or the equivalent Suntour of the day).

Mavic hubs or any of the old decent screw-on jobbies with a NOS Suntour freewheel (this one is expensive http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NOS-SUNTOUR-A ... 5b0dd52f31) or similar non hyperglide freehubs

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Shimano-6-SPE ... 27a69aad94

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VINTAGE-RACIN ... 5b0e7be5ce

I was thinking some modern shiny wide flange single speed hubs could be built into something interesting.

* and 7spd can foul the stays, I kept with a six spd.
