Hi
Wanted to find out a bit more about this bike, does anyone out there know anything i.e how old, original cost etc.
Where did it sit in the Orange range?
One thing is for certain I love the look of it.

I have an X1 bought in July 1996. Frame £450, shock an extra £220 (I took the Stratashock with remote lock out option). Series 8 (Orange proprietary?) microbutted tubing. Mine has the orange coloured rear triangle. There are some brochures kicking around on this site somewhere with more details if you have a look :D

Yours looks like a small or medium - mine's a large. Also looks like your shock is the standard Stratashock. I think there were 3 shock options.

Other than colour of rear triangle, size and choice of shock the rest is identical to mine :D (except mine has started to rust :( )

Hello Chris

You decided to sign up then. Let me be the first to say welcome to Retrobike :D

I'm sure you'll find out something fairly quickly on here. This bike is immaculate – I've seen it in the flesh! I'll avoid the dreaded 'M****' word (just think Polos), but this is the real deal

By the way mate, what happened to the wheel? Checked on fleabay on Sunday to make my bid and it had disappeared  I take it you've decided to keep it. If you change your mind or want to discuss feel free to PM me on here or email me.

Cheers fella – keep in touch

That looks nice. I am building one for a mate from scratch, so it is not original. Mine also has the orange rear triangle, and I believe it to be a 1997 model.

If that is the one I saw on ebay about a month or so ago, well done, and a great price too.

I have managed to build this one for my friend for £330. It has Judy XC's with zed springs, i-Beam stem, and a full compliment of LX kit from the era. It's a mixture of nos, that word that cannot be spoken, some new, and a few, very few, tired bits.

I'm hoping to finish it this weekend and I'll post pic's in my galley of the build and finished article.

Another X1 owner here.

They were out about '96-'97 I had a catalog that listed them at about £1150 depending on options. Got mine for £220 when it was about 3 years old.

I think they came in that colour, sort of a baby blue. Not very common, only seen a pic of one other. Mind you I have never seen another X1 out on the trail when I was on mine (or even since...) in any colour!

I have finished building the one for my friend and he is stoked. I am trying to put the build pic's in my Gallery but forgot to take a pic of the finished article so relying on him to send me one. Looks great and felt nice when I rode it round the garden.

I was pleasantly surprised by the weight. For some reason I thought it was going to be heavy!
