for those of you that went to the Old World Champs this year you will remember the Orange boys, Dave and Ben, they took a real interest in what was going on and had a real good time even though they had no idea what to expect!!
rather than just being there they actually got involved in all the sillyness, racing and drinking, top chaps i'm sure you will agree!
you might also remember that there was only one of their retro Orange's that was ridable so Ben ended up using my 1995 Orange P7 nickel with XT groupset as pictured by mikeD of privateer mag on Page 2 of the OWMTBC10 aftermath thread.
you might also remember that Ben was a bit good on a bike! not just a fit bugger but pretty skilled aswel!! . . . . . git!
when i got the bike back the next day (with hangover!!) he told me
"sorry but i have ruined your bike!!"
Dave had hinted that Ben had been getting air and doing tailwhips!! (Fairplay on a bike from 1995 that he hadn't ever ridden before!!) basically he managed to rip the tyre apart! aswel as slightly buckling the rear wheel and loosening the rear cones (classic tailwhip damage!) not that he mentioned that!!!
i didn't mind, 2minutes with a spoke key and a hub rebuild is easy for an ex bike trade mechanic like me and being honest the Kudos of lending a bike to an Orange factory worker because they didn't have enough bikes was brilliant! not to mention funny!!
anyway Ben promised to replace the tyres, even though there was only damage to one of them! i said don't worry about it i had spares but he insisted because they were Maxxis exception tread tyres so quite expensive. he phoned me a few days later to say he had some tyres for me but because i'm a fussy bugger i said thanks but they weren't a tyre i liked and said don't worry about it, he insisted i should have something so i said send me a T shirt or something.
This lot turns up!!!!
