Orange Guru Needed

Hi,thanks for the replies and interest.
So,is it a Claude Butler or an Orange prototype ?.
The idea of it being a prototype appeals to me with it never having had a frame number and having basic stickers but needs this to be verified by somone who knows.
Would contacting Orange direct be any good ?.

I'll happily chew my own foot off if thats an Orange prototype

The odds of finding one at a carboot sale...?

Dont get your hopes up, its just an ordinary fairly lightweight aluminium frame that somebody stuck some decals to.

The cranks and mech are very likely original and point to its origins as a £250 bike flavoured object.

its probably a Saracen...

Is the headangle of the frame looking odd to any one else? or are the forks bent?

Either way I am tempted to vote "not an orange". Sure it could be a prototype, but theres not enough similarity for me to draw the link between this frame and any of the actual orange frames. I think its much more likely to have been given a new image at some time than for it to be a prototype.

That said. £15 is not a lot of money so you cant really go that wrong!

Are the decals under lacquer or just stuck on?

Orange are quite helpful, worth trying them.

The decals are over the lacquer and the forks could be slightly bent.
I`ve just looked on the Orange website but could`nt find a contact email address.
Can anyone help ?.

hmmm more evidence that could can be used to support the argument it isnt an Orange, just a generic alloy frame stickered up.

I'll join LGF in eating his feet, if he's up in Lincoln in a fortnight, if turn out to be an Orange.

Serials can be in various places, back of seattube, inside stays etc.. not just under the bottom bracket.

(P.S. It's not a Prototype, just a generic Alu frame with some stickers on in my opinion. Mainly as you mention it has 1-1/8" headset. Early Oranges say '91 did look like that as did most alu bikes of that era though. Probably all made in a similar place)

I'll bring the sauce

Ok ,so theres more chance that the queen once owned this frame than it being an Orange prototype.
I accept it.
Its still a well built light ali frame from the early/mid 90`s and will build up into a half decent retro ride.
I`ve got a plan in my head so watch this space more info.

The geometry is all wrong for an Orange.. the head tube is too long for the size of the frame. I'll also eat LGF's feet if it turns out to be a prototype.. :|
