A friend with good ties to Reynolds recently replaced the top tube in my 753 Yates, he couldn't get a 753 tube for love nor money (so it's rocking an 853 now). I would have to assume that a renovation job on that with a new tube and two colour fade that cost £200 would be either A) a charitable donation by some philanthropic frame-builder or B) not terribly good.

Agreed.

It took 3 years of searching to find the correct tube for my Roberts Stratos, and that's not Reynolds 753.

I guess if you want a quick cheap fix, any old tube will do, but given the bike in question, personally I couldn't cut corners, which is why I politely declined the chance to buy it when it was sold as shown for just under a grand.

You should have bought it for that...... it is a relatively inexpensive fix in the grand scheme of things. Once the new owner has acquired it they can then decide how best to tackle it. I am tempted to see the project through myself as I have done the groundwork on repair costs etc but the money would come in handy right now.

Any chance of the details of the company you have found who can do the repair and renovation work required for £200. It would make a big difference and a huge level of reassurance to the project given its new asking price...?

Fantastic to see a piece of history, a little taken back, at the buy it now price..Definitely out of my league this! Couldn't justify paying that tho personally, but am sure someone will, and do a sterling job. If your paying 2 grand for a bike tho, £200 repair work is secondary..Anyway good luck with the sale..will watch with interest..

Kevin Winter and Argos could renovate the frame set for £250. I have used both before and have been very happy with the standard of work. Both charge £130 for paint then £120 for the seat tube. My apologies, I was slightly out on my original figure of £200, I have just looked back through my emails with Kevin from past work and adjusted the price.

If anyone on here is genuinely interested I will listen to offers, I would love to see a genuine enthusiast own and renovate it. Anyone who is interested will have to show a history of previous Orange ownership and be a true enthusiast.

Re:

Having seen the better pictures on ebay I would dearly love to restore this beauty but it's far too spendy for me.

Great to see a close up of the original Formula decal and it'd be ace if Adrian could get a copy for his bike. 8)

Seems fair enough.. got one hell of a rare gem there.. if I had more funds I definitely would be wanting to restore this.. look forward to this being refurbished!

Thanks for the comments, I agree with its rarity with it being one of only 2 produced (and possibly the only surviving) lugged "Yates" Formula it's a bit of an unknown in terms of value too since we have never seen this variation for sale before. Very special indeed
