The Original Spec was a Mix of Suntour and Shimano. The difficulty here is the frame refurb. Acquiring the correct neon paint isn't easy or cheap, the standard Orange decals are easy enough, but as mentioned above, replicating the original black decals again wont be easy or cheap.

My worry is what lies underneath the paint and inside the tubes. Without tube replacement its £500 frame and fork refurb imho. If it needs tubes (as mentioned in PM, the skys the limit).

This is one of those bikes that needs a careful hand. If its gone at like a "bull in a china shop", its ruined before its started.

Its a British built frame for Orange, decal placement/position, depth of fade, Neon paint...., to keep it right this needs to be taken into consideration in my honest opinion.

Its a Survivor that's done a good job, the question I guess is how best to save it.

Agree 100%. This deserves to be done properly and with lots love. It deserves to become a standout bike on the forum like a handful of others. 8)

Re:

This has turned into a great thread, very interesting indeed.
I am still giving it some serious thought about what to do with the bike, I had no idea what it was when I bought it. I was also given a load of period parts that go with the bike so will be sorting through everything on the weekend along with cleaning it up to get a better look at its condition. I have looked into getting the frame and fork fully refurbished and it would cost around £150 for a professional job done by the best in the industry. The components are all in fantastic condition, just very dirty which I will enjoy cleaning up. The seat post moves freely as does the stem so nothing is seized. Such a stunning bike to look at - I really don't think it gets any better than this British MTB Icon.

for sale, not for sale, thread open, thread locked. Whats going on...?

Be good to see either the bike for sale on here or ebay, but with very good pictures of the frame to assess its condition for potential buyers.....?

Re:

The thread was in the sale section but now moved to ebay & Marketplace section which explains the locked then not locked bit I guess.

looking forward to watching the bidding on this one when it finally goes up

Thanks for explaining.

I'm looking forward to good up to date pictures of this. I think if the price is sensible its worth the work for sure.
