It matches a Dave Yates Diablo pretty well (aside from the lugs/ fillet braising), cables guides in the same place, rear stays etc etc.

It looks structurally ok but wouldnt date any earlier than around 1988 otherwise it would pre-date the Tushingham Muddy Foxes!

Some parts to get you going

And its only Neon Orange paint, not some sort of rare mystical colour only found in unicorn hooves

No but the point remains. Some colours are notoriously hard to match and make correct. I was very pleasantly surprised by how close the painters were able to get my Merckx to the original Telekom colours.

Point: But let us not forget that that when professional aircraft restorers working on Spitfire and Hurricane restorations are having trouble matching colours. Colours that only exist in black and white pictures and in many cases were locally mixed and applied to a mixture ratio in wartime but manage to settle for a closest approximation without ruining the whole package we can allow a little licence for a bicycle.

Counter point: This is actually probably rarer than a Mk1.a Spitfire.

And yes, the right aerosols can do great jobs

Re:

Getting a bit heated this...

You both do superb builds , (clearly seen), and you know a lot more than most on here, including myself by a country mile! So I will tread carefully.. 8)
I think Carl was just making the point that the paint job needed to be carefully considered, this being the Orange and white, if it was say 95% correct, is that arguably good enough for such a build like this. I personally think it deserves to be as close to 100%.. am sure either of you could accommplish this.. :D

Re: Very early orange prestige

It depends on what your expectations are for this bike. An all on project with very expensive one of-ish amalgamations of bills or whether it is something you foresee as a very long term resurrection.

You will spend more than it is worth to bring it back to it's former glory and when you spend that much they tend to be rarely ridden garage queens seeing more dust than dirt

Lets be honest, outside of this forum very few will see it for what it is. I would still get as much info as possible and launch it then on ebay

Or don't buy it because it is a vampire bike :D
