Orange Clockwork Prototype

you could do that but judging by the pics it is unlikely that it would need that much, you are more than welcome to bring it to me though, but it's a 4 hour drive from suffolk!

I have looked at seeing if I could get the bike couriered to you, but my last few experience of using couriers hasn't ended well...
 
As that rear mech is original, that rear mech is new for the year 2000 models.
So you must have got it late '99 then just before you moved.

Stick some more pictures up.
If you were not so far away I'd give it a once over for you.

Hazarding a guesstimate this is a 1998 model targeted year bike as it has parts from then and seems to be that era frame with some choice 2000 model year upgrades

I had already emailed a local chap and asked if he had any experience of 'older bikes' and told him it was an older Orange. He came back with 'Absolutely' and explained he had a real passion for older bikes and has 2 Orange bikes of his own. I popped down to see him and he said he couldnt believe the condition of it. As the 'Gold' service includes a strip down and clean etc, he said it was unusual for someone to bring their bike down and have given it a clean first. I hadn't!! That's how it came out of the garage.

Anyway, turns out he really does have a passion for older bikes. He's restored a few Orange Clockworks for himself, his father and he did one for his girlfriend. He said it doesn't need the 'gold service' but I said for the extra money I'd prefer to give it a pamper as I feel it deserves it for holding up so well after all these years.

The plan is... full strip, everything cleaned, new (good quality) tyres and inner tubes, taped rims, new break pads that are slightly curved, new cables, some kind of waxoyl for inside the frame, all the grease/oil renewed, outside cleaned gently, the frame waxed and he said he's going to try and source the black 'Clockwork' sticker because the other side of the bike (left side where there are no cables on the top tube) has a few of the letters rubbed off. He's going to take the sensor things off the bike (said I'd be better off using my phone), but leave the crud catchers, Zefal Carbon bottle holder and the bar ends on as he said these are obviously 'of the era'.

Apparently you can get some 'furring' on some of the parts, but he said 'this is coming off with my fingers - I think this is going to look like a brand new bike! Amazing!!'

He brought out his Orange mountain bike that he uses regularly and I've attached a picture of them. I had no idea how far things have progressed, it reminds me of the current mini vs the original and mine looks really cute. He's such a lovely chap and incredibly passionate about both old and new bikes, but he openly admits he has a real soft spot for old 'british' bikes. I took a couple at the place who's servicing the bike, but he said he's going to photograph the process and send me regular updates, so I'll post these when I have them.

Incidentally, my neighbour found the serial number 00569. Does that help date it?? I am 100% confident all the parts are the original ones when he gave the bike to me, I definitely didn't change anything and we had to force entry into the garage as the door was so fragile we daren't open it until after mum had died!

Next to the bike was my car that was stranded in the garage! My 1988 Vauxhall Astra SRi with around 30,000 miles on the clock.

I sold the Astra to a local chap who likes 80's hot hatches. He had to sell his Golf GTI to pay for his son's overseas medical bill so he's now on with putting it on the road. Only took an hour or so to get it up and running, so he's chuffed to bits and next time I'm in Halifax I'm going to give him the head unit and Clifford Concept 40 alarm for him to stick on the car (which was an alarm I took off a car back in 1999 when I moved down south). Cost a fortune back them, but neither are of any use to me, so he may as well have them for his project.
