Orange Clockwork 7 Speed Cassette.

I've just fitted a Shimano HG50 7 speed cassette. Should it go all the way onto the splines i.e. basically touching the hub flange, or is there meant to be a gap for chain clearance between the largest cog and the spokes?
I've replaced the old one (and fitted a new chain) because of slipping in the middle gears under load which I can't seem to adjust out.

It should fit all the way onto the splines. A longer hub body is an 8/9/10 speed, in which case a 3mm spacer is needed at the back.

Some 7 spd hubs require a little splined spacer depending on the cassette/ hub combo

Thanks, looks like I'll have to refit it. I thought, later that the gap could be to there to fit a plastic spoke protector.
