Orange Aluminium O , now purple anodised! update 24/09/25

ok so i have been itching to get more done on this frame. i have managed to build it, some of the parts fitted are not staying, basically i'd like it to be pretty much all LX/XT mix, currently it has STX-RC brakes which will do while i find some XT or LX, also i got kippered on the STI units, bought them on ebay, when i got them i noticed a crack on the underside of the gear adjuster casting, thought it would be ok, didn't moan, should have, basically the adjuster falls/pulls out of the thread so it wouldn't index correctly, obvs wasn't pictured in the listing and it's now been way to long to complain.

obvs saddle and pedals are modern, in there just for a test ride.

need to sort out some stickers, i am going to copy the font and colour from my 96 D2, it's almost identical to the stickers on the pictured frame earlier in this thread, anyway, here's a few pics:)

this zip tie sort of stops the adjuster from pulling out but basically it's dead, thanks ebay

so i got a little further with this, Ed supplied me a pair of Rockshox from his Aluminium O as my Marzocchi forks don't hold air and i can't be arsed to sort them out, as result those forks were unrideable, i also swithched out the flexstem for a retro purple one i got karma'd a while ago.

i still want to sort out some stickers, and i need to get some retro-ish grips and saddle, and i haven't sorted the shifter issue yet but it's pretty much there now..

ok, so finally an update on this one!

it got opuit on the back burner because i wasn't happy with the Marzocchi fork, so i got the rockshox, but Darren needed them so i sold them to him (for what i paid for them), then temporarily the marzocchi fork while looking for another fork. eventually i found on ebay a Shogun fork from Germany, so i gopt that, had it painted mirror silver which looks nice but i wanted a suspension fork really so i went looking again and eventually found a Maniktou, now i miss read the listing! i saw '1 1/4' and just threw money at the seller, sorry can't remember who it was! when they arrived i reralised they were aheadset fitting, 1 1/4 and ahead? didn't know that ever happened! anyway, then i went on the hunt for a headset, eventually finding this seales unit from Santana cycles in Califoirnia for £52, then went looking for a stem, everything i found was either stooooopid money or 150mm long! i think not, it then occurred to me than modern Giant bikes have been using 1 1/4 on the road bikes, sure enough it's the same clamp size and it turned out Ritchey do a stem so i got one of those, obviously it's 31.8mm clamp so i had to fit a modern bar, but i don't consider this finished yet.

futher plans are, appropriate bar/stem/grips and saddle and maybe a fork elastomer rebuild kit, other than that it feels pretty good!
