Oops wrong tyres, anyone want to buy 26x2.10 ?

So I got the wrong tyres for my bike refurbishment.
Damn

Existing tyres are 26x1.90 and the original magazine articles on my 1989 bike say there is plenty of clearance around the edges for fatter wider tyres, so I thought 2.10 would be fine and there was plenty of clearance around forks, brakes etc.

But just put them on and damn.. rear chainstays where they get narrowest "just" touches the tyre tread on one side. It implies the wheel isnt fully central or true, but even if it was in my skills to perfectly true/centre the wheel, there would be mm clearance which isnt good when you ad mud, so there would be rubbing.

I got them from Wiggle, and have emailed them asking if ok to exchange... but of course I had to take the labels off to fit them, so even though they havent seen ground/floor, the labels are off and thus they dont meet the returns criteria.
Wiggle may reply and be really nice... or may reply well within their rights and say tough luck. Dunno yet.

So damn damn damn. Silly-self.

So if wiggle dont swap em, is anyone interested in some Schwalbe Black Jack ATB 26 x 2.10 tyres?

Feel silly and annoyed at this happening. Why didnt I just stick with 1.90 when I know theyd fit.

Don't blame yourself, Bob, you just can't trust tyre sizes anymore nowadays. Your 2.2" Schwalbes may very well be in excess of 2.3" wide if you measure them yourself.

I have a set of Schwalbe City Jets in 1.95" fashion on one of my bikes, and found out that they were actually 2.01" wide.
Funnily enough, when I replaced them with a set of 2.125" Duro Comp III tyres, the new ones turned out to actually be 1.89" at their widest point.

Thanks didnt think of that. They do look a lot wider than the old 1.90s

Hopefully wiggle will be nice to me. We will see.

Re:

Just measured spesh GC's on Kona and they are 2.0 with tape measure but marked up as 2.1's , I think rim width affects things too btw .
I've got a 2.1 GC I was about to bin (tread getting very thin in middle and sidewalls a bit tired as I run tubeless and low pressure and it has done a couple k miles) if you want it to try for size .(If you like bald tyres you could even use it lol)

Many came up undersize to look light on spec sheets. German brands seem to come up accurate on carcass size (knobs are extra!) Panaracer in particular always seem to come up skinny.

I have a similar clearance problem on my Dawes MTN tandem. A happy half hour with a wet stanley knife and the side knobs shaved off cured clearance matters.

Very much appreciate the offer thank you thats really nice of you. I think though that as they "only-just" dont fit, and the tyres I went for are available in a 1.90, that just dropping to the 1.90 tyres will be a straight fix. Its just whether wiggle will do a swap (took labels off to be able to fit em) or whether I buy new and sell on the 2.1s.

Thanks for the offer though, appreciated. Local to me too :)

It does seem to be the side knobs creating the problem. So time with Mr Stanley could be a solution, though I do like the side knobs so would probably preffer to drop to the 1.90s if I can.

Interesting what you said about knobs being extra. Thanks for the info.

Damn Wiggle said no:

"I am very sorry to hear that these tyres are unsuitable, but I am afraid that once the items are fitted - even if unused - we would be unable to accept as a return unless they were faulty. Please accept my apologies for the disappointment."

How can you know they dont fit without trying them??

Its still my own fault, but the tyres are perfect and havent touched the ground as the bike didnt even come off the stand and is inside the house. Despite removing the labels (my fault) i did keep them and reatach. So the tyres are absolutely perfect and re sellable so i honestly thought wiggle would be ok about this, but no.
I could have pretended they were just unwanted and claimed the rip in labels happened in transit, but no i felt honesty was better.
Again, having the wrong size is my fault not theirs, but i am still surprised at the fact they arent helping me out at all. I will sadly be very wary of wiggle purchases in future. Guess i am just used to amazon uk who bend over backwards for returns.

So am stuck with tyres now that i cant use. Damn.

EDIT: And just to add, I do appreciate that the wrong size was my fault in the first place, and I do also realise that Wiggle have not done anything wrong or outside of their terms etc so I cannot really shout and scream at them at all... however... just personally, I do tend to respect when a company takes customer service to high levels and actively tries to help you out, whereas in this case I do not feel Wiggle have tried to help me at all, simply said "no its outside our conditions so your stuck mate, bye". I always feel its not when sales go right that a seller shows quality, rather when they go wrong. Amazon uk for example in my experience have bent over backwards to help out with customer service issues and I respect them a lot for that and I guess have gotten used to that service. I dont feel Wiggle have tried to help me (the email even ended with saying if I had further questions to email back, yet the email is from a non-emailable account so I cant reply).
With how big wiggle is and how good the prices are, Im sure they have lots of fans here and I probably will get hated for this post. But for me, I did make a mistake, I was honest about it, and the goods are in perfect condition... but I dont feel Wiggle have even tried to help me.
I could have understood a response of "You return them to us at your postage cost and we will examine them and if they are perfect as you say, then we will swap them" but nope :(

Re:

Is the front one OK?

If so, you only need to replace the rear, it will be perfectly fine with a 1.9 on the rear and a 2.1 on the front.
