I am actually genuinely interested to know because it is so odd.
google image search "strange bicycle" and there are some reet strange contraptions. Some are mobile art and others are clearly built for laughs, but the above is somewhere inbetween.
Built as a touring bike with a remote Shimano 8 speed hub frame mounted and detachable backend with the idea that the bike could be broken down and fitted into a custom made suitcase that would double as a bike trailer. This was a prototype build.
The remote gear hub seems like unnecessary complexity to me, but it is definitely interesting. Can anyone provide insight into why they may have chosen this path as opposed to simply putting the hub in a wheel?
The reasoning was so you could take the back end (which is attached by the chainstay next to the bottom bracket and also secured by the seatpost) off without the complexity of reattaching the gear cable however you still have to detach the cable back disc. As stated before it was a prototype to see what could be done.
