The demise of Raleigh was incredibly sad. They made some great bikes in their time which have been overlooked or even tainted by the BSO's they churned out

It was sad to see the decline in quality of raleigh's intended market.

Amazing that they thought they could produce low quality bikes and compete in an international market.

I think the 80s decline in bike sales meant they had to try to shift units into the lower end of the market, given they had a huge factory and massive workforce to employ.

It would have been very difficult to downsize, so they just ran into the wall.

I wonder whether the value of the Nottingham site helped the company survive a few more years, or just got pocketed by the unscrupulous?
