There seems to be a lot of it about; take an up tempo rock or pop song, slow it down and have someone with a breathy voice sing it with an acoustic accompaniment. Bingo, instant sound track for a high street bank or John Lewis advert.
I quite like what Richard Cheese does, his tongue is clearly, firmly in his cheek, but some of these wet blanket, whiney covers take themselves far too seriously. I think it all started with that dreary Gary Jules cover of Mad World by Tears for Fears.
