Olympics MTB Course Video

C - omplete waste time and effort

R - eal poor decision by Olympic committee

A - ppalling choice of venue

P - lease please please engage your brain before making a decision next time Seb Co

Really really dissapointed with this, I thought one of the purposes of the olympics was to "sell" facilities and experiences to tourists. This "track" is not what mountain biking is about.

It should have been held at an established centre a bit further north or in wales. At least that way you would have a fan base willing to travel to pay £20 - 40 for a ticket.

If they wanted it near London I'm sure the Chilterns or the Southern ranges of near Guilford could have provided far better terrain at a similar distance out.

As for camera coverage it would be no problem - tracking cameras in the trees are an easy set up as are high up crane cameras, and a few branches being loped to accomodate this would hardly be an issue. Just look at films like the collective and what they achieved on a miniscule budget.

I for one would much rather stand in a forest than in a field - especially if the wind picks up or if the weather is crap.

Well, the good news is that it is NOT a permanent venue.
Once the Olympics are over, it'll be got rid of.
No legacy of at least a dull track to ride round.

IF it were a great track, we'd all be miffed that there were scrapping it afterwards.

Since it has such great media coverage as it's open an flat with a few bricks thrown in, i'll be sat comfy at home watching the other side. (unless there are some pretty cyclists riding).

To be fair, the runners run around an oval track, the roadies ride around an oval track, the swimmers swim up and down a rectangluar tank ...
Why should XC MTB be any different to other sterile manmade environments for sports...

olympic standard,i think not. looks ok for an efternoon play but c'mon, lets be honest.it looks wan.k. poor play seb.

Bike radar mention a 20 minute lap, most the races I have done the good guys take around 40 minutes - ( I take 1.5 to 2 hours :) )

Is it really that short or is it so easy it is just faster?
