old vs new

Back in the days (early 1990's) I built up a Pace RC200 for £2,500 and had a Giant steel framed run a round that I built up for £65.

I was totally gutted to find that the Giant rode better than the Pace in almost every respect except tecnical uphill. The Pace had Pace sus forks, the Giant some rather light CrMol unicrowns, and was still a better downhiller.

Make of that what you will..............

Had lots of bikes old and new, good, bad and ugly

I recently obtained a 1993 Merlin Mountain and can honestly say its the nicest bike to ride that I have ever had.

Only downside is that i'm not very interested in buying anymore other than to build up for the pure hell of it.

hmm

I guess if you get a HT retro ride, with full xt or xtr and make sure the sprockets are fine. I don't believe u get dissapointed.

I don't like the new bikes, they have to much travel and they are not racers, I would opt for an old ride anyday, I'm giving up trying to ride a 08 for something old. Just get an good 80mm's fork and go...
