Old parts on newer frame question

Bit of advice needed. Apart from BB, head bearings & seat post, will early 90s stuff (cantis, wheels, gears etc) fit late 90s alloy frames?? Cheers, Kev

BB will probably fit if the shell is the same width, and almost all headsets are the same 1&1/8" unless very early 90s. Seatposts are always different, no matter how hard you try!!

But yes, it should all fit.

Yes, you should be able to swap most the parts straight over. The only issue you might have is later 90's frames tend to be for V brake, so if you are wanting to run cantis you will need a cable stop of some sort.

No, most late 90's frames still used 135mm spacing. sprocket spacings and chains got smaller to add the extra gears.

everything was pretty standard for mainstream frames/ bikes until about 10 years ago when all hell seemed to break loose with tapered steerers and about 3,654 different bottom bracket standards

oops, sorry 3,655 different BB standards

There are some short lived headtube types such as integrated bearings and odd 1.5 sizes that dont mix well. 1x drivetrains started appearing too so you may find no option for the front mech but it would be unusual for you to bump into these if you check everything beforehand.

You forgot disc brake standards and hub axle standards. No wonder gravel bikes came to life as the new all terrain bike; mountain bikes lost their soul.
