Not sure if I've got the title right but I'm thinking of newer stuff that is similar in one way or another to stuff from back in the day. Perhaps some examples will help:

Syncros post and stem - Thomson post and stem

I perceive the old school Syncros posts and stems as being high quality, robust and not spectacularly heavy. I perceive the Thomson stuff similarly (but not 'new' Syncros funnily enough) and they are not a million miles apart in appearance.

Cooks cranks - Tune cranks

It's fairly widely accepted that Cooks cranks are great looking and madly light if not particularly robust. Tune cranks don't look dissimilar and are also crazy light although I'm not sure about the robustness.

There must be plenty more examples?

Interesting comparison, I'd say they are similar in concept (for fastening), except Thomson stuff works beautifully whereas Syncros posts and stems crack slip and bend. ;)

Ooh, good question. How about ( if you can still get them from SJS Cycles ) 9 speed indexed thumbshifters? Also, Charge Spoon saddles. 50g heavier, 1/3 of the price but much comfier than a Flite Ti. Gaining a hell of a reputation in our local club.

Sorry, there is nothing more comfy than a flite/slr...

I am thinking EC90 bars = Hyperlites

flites are MILES more comfy than any SLR! "be liiiikee sitting on tut razor blaaade"..

Managed the 8hrs at HONC without problem and have an SLR on the road bike and no issues with either. Find them both pretty similar comfort wise.
Still, married with kids, how would I know if there was a problem...
