old Kona - stem rise

I'm wondering if a 5 degree rise would look ok, with straight bars, or zero rise with a riser bar?

Riser bars are the work of the Devil

stick with flat bars and get a stem to suit.......you can even get flat bars these days with the width and sweep of risers...or so I've heard :?

Not sure, I just remember back in the day reading that it was heavy, and that made me want to get a lightweight one like an A-TAC or a Synchros or Ritchey Comp. I was just a teenager back then though, and a bit obcessed with all the lightweight stuff.

To each his own, but I think it looks alright. Keeping in mind mine is suspension corrected geometry.
Anything would look alright with that fork! What fork is it Paul? I assume it's ti?

I tried that weight weenie thing for a week or so, then stripped the bike, sold off the frame and weenie bits and built up my Score as a bruiser bike instead. I'd rather have durability than super light. Trying to find a balance is nice though. All my bikes are riders, so they have to put up with some abuse.

As for riser bars being the work of the devil, well that's just silly. Personal preference to suit riding style and conditions should be the deciding factor. But there are some neo-luddites here opposed to anything modern, like suspension forks, v-brakes, index shifters, 9-speed cassettes, top-pull derailleurs, yes riser bars, full-face helmets, rear suspension, A headsets and (non quill) stems less than 130mm and with any rise whatsoever, BB's that aren't 5 bolt sqare taper, and perhaps a few other things I haven't thought of. It's just the evolution of the industry, and the advances are a natural progression like going from SS cruisers, to gears and front brakes. I say embrace it all, but know your history. And as a disclaimer, I'm a bit of a neo-luddite in my own respects with pc's and mobile phones. I hate the things, but I can certainly see their usefulness, so I understand where it come s from and the term is used with affection and self-irony, not as an insult.

Yeah, I want to update my bike a bit but keep the basic original looks as much as I can. I shall be fitting V-brakes as I think they look better, I just am not sure what to do about the stem/bars.

I've put kevlar tyres on it and they make a big difference to the feel of the bike, it feels a lot more nimble.
