Just bought a conti supercross/baja from sinnet177, anyone know the attributes of this tyre? Seems a bit of a mystery as I can't find it anywhere apart from a few mentions on other forums. Any other old conti favourites? Have seen a few recently that look pretty good.

I ran a set for years, great tyre, eventually the fibre walls gave way, inner tube popped out and burst on the brake lever!
I think i have an MBUK group test with them in, i'll see if i can dig it out if youwant it....

Cheers guys, stay tuned for an interesting development :P

I've bought a set of Cross-Country's and a Leader Pro. all 3 still in the box.
I was suprised that the weight of the leader Pro was fairly low.
The CC's where rather heavy, but then look like they have plenty of grip.

No clue on how they ride, but with the amber walls they looke pretty cool.

The Leader Pro was the original semi-slick, Conti intended it for front use only, BITD when I told the guys at Conti I was running them front & rear they were very interested to try it themselves. The Cross Country was a good all rounder but did not excel in any field IMHO

looking through above link it was defo the cross countrys i had
any body want to sell me a pair?
and granted no where near as good as a modern tyre but 13 (approx) years ago they kicked ar$e compared to the stock specialised tyres on my work run about rockhopper

My experience with Conti's in the mid nineties is they were very good for grip with softish compounds and flexible casings. I think the typical colour comes from using natural rubber as opposed to synthetic. I loved them on mixed woodland and dune trails in Holland.

The downside is they didn't last that long with me. The end came when I moved to the Hot climate of the Middle East and started riding loose rocky trails. The Conti rear tire I was running was destroyed it in a matter of hours. Hole chunks of tread dissapeared, knobs torn out from the surface and many cuts and nicks in the carcass. I reckon they didn't handle the 45+ °C ambient temps that well.

Now back in Holland I also run a pair of their latest offering, the Mountain King 2.4. The Black Chili compound is again based on natural rubber. It's the only tire in my current line up to clear a drawn out offcamber bend that's strewn with roots (across) in the wet. Too early to judge wear on those though.

Enjoy!!
