Old campag shifters on this years Tdf TT bikes

Was surprised (and quite pleased) to see some good old 9 speed campag shifters on the end of the Canyon and Colnago bikes. Looks like they are using a 9 speed cassette with 11 speed mech.

Goes to show, who needs 11 speed!?

Nothing new on a TT bike, specialist UK frame builders were doing that in the 70's with a brazed on gear hanger below. It allows wheels to be fitted on a very short rear end. It's now very common on 'modern' TT bikes.
 
apparently the disk wheels will only accommodate a campag ghibli 9 speed cassette, so hence the 9 speed shifters. The ghibli cassette is current catalogue stock, not retro stuff
(told this by a mate on todays clubrun, and will happily be corrected)
