Old boys club?

Being blanked by other members ..... I refer to "Welding Help Needed in West Yorks - Stuck BB".
Two offers of help from RB members and not even an acknowledgement.
Yup its disheartening.
I suppose what goes around comes around.

When you are looking for bits for your retro bike - is it who you know or is it an even playing field?

I think it really depends on what part you are after, what bike it's going on and how much you want to pay.

I know I've had complete strangers offer me parts for some builds (without me asking) so while the playing field may not be even in many ways it's certainly not that bumpy. Like most things in life if you help others out more often than not its returned.

Now what are you looking for just in case I can help you out??

Keep trying. Your luck well change.
Example.
-there is post for fork boots. I have a box of about 20 ATI that well fit.
-I sold a stock and in mint condition Marin Team Titanium for about £400 posted. It went to first person whom wanted it!
-a mar. canti hanger has been forward to a member in Britain. He does not need it!
-a member is in need of some seat post parts, may get email when it arrives in Britain.
-I well be selling my Rocky Mountain Blizzard frame, RM Titanium frame, RM Tibolt bike and Brodie Sovereign. There are already dibs on all of them. 2 may be going to members I never chatted to before.
Keep trying.

I didn't realise I had "blanked" anyone tbh. Sorry if it seemed that way. In the end I gave up on that one anyway. I didn't have the time to go to anyone to take up the offer.

I saw the title and dint look inside but I don't feel I have banked you. I don't live in the area and don't know any alloy welders in the area either so can't see how I could help.

Do you post on every body else's requests for help?

As for an old boy's network, I would love to know who the op I'd referring to. Just seems like a network, or series of networks of friends.

If I am ever in a position to help I will do.
I wasn't referring to anyone in particular, just a general observation.

I suppose the point is that the new member to the site may be looking for certain parts and really struggle. If they put up wanted ads, make it known they need the part in a build thread and ask around - then find the parts they need being passed around without them being considered a recipient - they are going to feel pretty crap about it. Then maybe their only chance of getting the bits is paying eBay prices or changing plans or not bothering at all.
So yes, it's always good helping people out you know well, or have traded with before, but think of the newbie sometimes and try and help them too - you never know what they might have lurking in the shed that you might be very grateful for later on!! There's only a finite amount of these old parts around - hopefully the new people to this site might generate new supplies of them - let's not put them off sharing them with us.

And start reading the wanted ads!!

i feel that the longer you are on a site like this the more you get to know other users , if you have bought several times or sold several times to the same persons then you end up having chats abouts needs and want for retro bits and often keep an eye out for parts for other members to complete projects that interest you. so in short its more of making realtionships, giving and taking both advice, parts and freindship.

thats the way i see it anyway

stubbsy :D
