Retro Newbie
HI all totally new to owning a retro bike and apart from knowing the difference between the saddle and handlebars thats it .. Anyways i have been gifted a Marin palisades and i'm trying to date it and have read so much stuff on the net about how to decode the frame stamp i'm still stumped its crank gear set is a shimano biopace and from research that was manufactured between 1983 and 1993 .. Frame has a 10 digit code as follows A880795144 .I have mailed Marin but they are obviously too busy to reply.. ANY Help would be great

Re:

Picture would settle it all quick.

If you cannot attach directly, on here, can be a challenge for some. Then, Google images of marin palisades. When you have a match post a link to the image etc.

It the bike a solid red, or a two tone effort, any rockstar decals?

Re:

no rockstar decals and best described as a pinkish light purple with black forks and the steering stem is the same colour as the frame .. its definitely a palisades double butted welds on a chrome moly tange steel frame and solid forks and a hardtail have searched for hours and can not find any in the colour of mine rear brakes are mounted under the frame and it has gold araya wheels

1988! only one that came with black fork and chainsay brake :)

Welcome to the RB forum. Congrats on getting your Marin.

Take a good look around, you'll be sure to find lots of info, and if you need specific advice or help feel free to post - no such thing as a stupid question, we all learned from a variety of sources and the collective knowledge and experience here will get you clued up and dialled in in no time.

Take a look at the RB Wiki pages and the Archive for brochures/catalogs from numerous Marin production years. A good place to start is here --> Retrobike Marin Archive

cheers mark the bike came to me pretty un cared for but original apart from seat and brake blocks i hated the original colour a very insipid pinkish purple so i rubbed it down and did my own thing with it its now ford purple velvet (a nice 80s colour ) with black fade in to match the forks.
