Ok, what do you guys think?

I almost bought the top end hybrid bike, every review was great, good value compared to other makes, brand snobbery aside, id have one now if I ever feel like changing from my badboy.

A friend has two boardman bikes (boardmen?) and I have to say they are superb. Brand snobbery aside, you'll do well to match it for the money.

At least one of my clubmates has one and seems pleased with it, and they get good reviews in cycling magazines. Brand snobbery is unfortunate, although it hasn't put the US pro team United Healthcare off Boardman road bikes, Rory Sutherland using his to good effect in the Tour of California and mixing it with the best of 'em.

The brand snobbery can be a good thing because the look on peoples faces when you shoot past them on your halfords bike is priceless

I don't own the MTB but built up one of the hybrid frames and can't fault the ride of it at all and there are a couple of others I know have some of the road bikes and all say that the geometry on the frames is spot on and that seems to be echoed in the reviews I've seen, put together with the incredibly good kit they have on them they do seem a bargain for the money.

the hardtails are good but the fs frames are very prone to cracking on the seat tube pivot point.

That and at the chainstay pivot but alot of people that buy these bikes perform no maintenence on them what so ever

Owners of retro road bikes can get much the same effect by giving someone on a brand-new Trek, Specialized, Giant etc. a good pasting in a time trial and putting several minutes into them. Been there, done that. :)

Thanks for all the replies guys and apologies for not being around lately have been a little busy!!
Anyway have decided to take advantage of the bike2work scheme and went for something completely different... A nice shiny new Whyte Cambridge!! Am awaiting the paperwork going through and cant wait to try it out.
Liked the idea of a new road bike but didn't have the bottle to go for an all out drop bar just yet, also am thinking of doing some long distance rides in the future maybe even a John O'Groats to Lands End so thought this would be a good starter and should make a good starting point for a tourer/ commuter/ generally pottering around bike! Also its a little treat to myself and a way of getting back in to the road bike scene!
I know its not retro and I still do have other plans for retro bikes in the pipeline but I shall be giving this bike a little individualism as and when I can!!

Cheers
Micky
