Anyone know what this extra cap screw is for?

It wasn't mentioned in the eBay ad, I thought it might be the ever elusive canti-brake cable hanger on an ahead-style stem so I bought it on a lark. It's too far forward, not drilled for a cable and there is no lower pass through, so not that.

Bolt is factory installed by appearances, it's set into a cleanly installed rivnut and does not appear to be a homebrew addition. It's roughly three inches on center from the stem bolt, so too far away, and not quite the right height to be a bottle cage mount.

Light mount?

Cycle computer mount?

Integrated bong fitting?

Any ideas?

Thanks, Ted

Early pre-tablet laptop mount?

I reckon diy, it is not difficult to drill a hole and fit a rivnut, and would not look any different if it was done by the manufacturer, on that note, why is it not painted? They are when fitted to frame for water bottle cages.

The mystery continues.

Re:

Looking at the picture I would say a light or computer/gps mount.
Home done/bike shop done as the stem is different black to face plate, and missing decals on side.

The rivnut is pretty cleanly installed, it's one of the flush fit style used for cage mounting bolts. If it's a DIY job, it's exceptionally well done, perfectly centralized, no layout marks.

Cheers, Ted
