OIL

The BBC has just launched a series of documentaries about the Falklands and how in many cases it was pure luck that we won.
Im think theyre trying to lull the Argentine government into thinking it will be a pushover and invading. We'll then invade their country with the US as back up then split their wealth between us
Spanish werent the only ones to get the gold.
No...wait...that was Mexico.Ach,never mind,they'll be next

Who else can we bully??

:P

I have the book about the "black buck" missions. They were vulcan based in waddington just down the road from where I used to live. It was a run of good luck that allowed us to do it. All the old bomb racks had been scrapped luckily they managed to find some at a scrapyard in newark  Awesome read if you want to borrow it.

But it wasn't about the damage done though was it, as it was pretty minor it was about showing them we could do it. A great read though.

There is plenty left in the planet its just getting it is getting harder.

Agree. With the price of oil being high will mean it is worth getting it.

Another considerstion is the amount of energy it takes to extract the oil. If it takes more energy to extract one barrel of oil than you can generate with one barrel of oil then it's just pointless no matter what the current price of oil.

I believe currently oil shale is a good example of this. I once heard talk of building nuclear powerstations to heat the ground and make extraction of shale easier.

I've heard that the oil shale fields of Saskatchewen hold more reserves than the rest of the world put together, or some such nonsense.

I used to work in an oil and mineral core store.

There's lots left. Period.

Don't belive the hype, they are using the fact that ' it will run out one day' to make you pay more.

There might be what's left, but the question is all in the 'economically extractable'. Yes, you might be able to drill 200 miles west of the Shetlands but a platform in 250m of water able to survive regular force 12s and 30m oceanic waves makes the 100m or less in the North Sea look like a paddling pool. The technology and cost ain't there yet.

The technology gets safer and less expensive over time.

Whatever exploration throws up in the Atlantic, given time I am sure extracting it could be cost effective.

The current estimates suggest that the North Sea oil is only half done. I am sure they are reasonable, coming from different sources.

Whatever the reasons behind it, a global switch to non finite energy sources must make long term sense. Do we really want to be using oil in fifty years time?

I wonder if oil will be quite the thing it used to be once a deal of the world has moved on to more sustainable sources of energy. Will we be exporting oil when we hardly use it? Will that be acceptable given our global environmental concerns?

'Peak oil' is just a cover, unfortunatly the hippies have got hold of that saying now , and their making us belive it to.........think about it............how do you get people to belive something, coin a phrase and get an eco group to start using it...then it must be true.
