my favourite part is the spoke reflectors. i think i still have some from collecting them out of kellog cornflake packets.

really nice period build.

cool, thanks 8)

I felt lucky to find a set on ebay, just like the ones in the Fat City Cycles ad from the same time period.

and yes, I remember them...but don't remember if I ever put one on my bike...probably did

Thanks.

The cranks, along with all the other shimano parts, are M730. From the Fats I've owned, one had G.P. Wilson dropouts front and rear. Another had campy dropouts on the fork and shimano rear...the rest shimano dropouts; I've never owned any newer than 1990.

what happened after 1990 did they radically change the frame?

I'm kind of like that with my bikes, after 1994 I feel no love for most of the bikes produced (IF are an exception), think that was the end of my first love affair with Mountain bikes- arrested until I joined here of course. :D

No, not that I know of, the frames would still be made in Somerville, MA for a few years more, before they left to NY.

I share your sentiments; the only bikes I have newer than 1990, are a 96 IF and a 97 wtb phoenix....oh and a mid-90s bontrager race lite.

stunning- got to love the black hubs and the quick release is pimpy to the nth degree 8) Is it an american classic?

Thanks :)

Yes, the hubs, skewers/quick release, and seat post quick release are all American Classic from the late 80's. The rims are a minty set of Ritchey Vantage Comps, not sure if from the late 80's or early 90's. The wheelset is a marked improvement over what I had on it previously.

Lovin this Fat......always liked IRD stuff too...the post is well nice... 8)

Thanks, Drew :)

The IRD stuff is awesome, and works works works. I had the option of either a silver polished IRD post or the black one; I went with the black one, since the crankset will be getting swapped out for a black one shortly. It will a dark dark wicked

Also, there will be another IRD addition before I'm done, just need to get the install right, but don't want to take it apart right now, since it's the primary rider...maybe this winter.

The IRD part?
a Roller Cam (not the U-brake on my Goat) :D :D
